Our citrusy, bright Sumac seasoning starts with 100% pure NZ Sea Salt harvested from the pristine waters of the Marlborough Sounds. The Sea Salt is certified by BioGro NZ as suitable for Organic input. We then add delicious ground sumac, the tangy red powder from the fruit of the sumac shrub, most often used in classic Middle Eastern seasonings.
Ground Sumac is mostly used as a souring agent in Middle Eastern, mostly Lebanese, cuisine, with its roots dating back to ancient Greek and Roman times where it was used as a wool dye or for tanning leather.
